Why are the most beautiful among us
subject to the most heinous traumas?
Those eyes most deep and bright
muddied by a flood of tears
That leaves behind sensitive souls
tortured by false hopes and fears
Why are those hearts strongest with melodies
beaten down by strings of tragedies?
Those born open to the world
struck repeatedly by loss
Until pain, like fluid, fills them
Its weight carried like a cross
Why do the least among us fluorish?
Is it the toxic values we nourish?
Set ourselves up to mirror what we see
Exacerbate this cosmic cruelty
Constant addition of insult to injury
to break and burden those blessed with beauty

I like to think that those burdened with such pain and misfortune will rise higher and shine brighter than all others. At least I hope so. Great poem.
